About

About Us

Botswana Prison Officers Burial Society has been in existence since 1983 and was formed by Prison Officers for the purpose of providing for the cost of a funeral on the death of a member or his/her dependents. The need to create a Burial Society arose from the realization that funeral insurance was unaffordable for most officers and saving for funeral preparations was impractical at the time. The Society is constitutionally run by an elected executive committee. The Society is governed by the Botswana Prison Officers Burial Society Constitution approved by the Registrar of Societies.

Underwriting

Botswana Prison Officers Burial Society is underwritten by Botswana Life Insurance Limited. This followed the implementation of one of the resolution adopted at the Society’s 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM). It is pleasing to note that Society was able to show significant progress following the underwriting process as witnessed by improved operational standards in line with insurance industry standards.

My mother passed away due to Covid, i was also positive and couldnt go around to process my papers for assistance from Insurance but with the help of Burial Society Personnel they sent me relevant forms to fill. The assistance was very impressive and I felt compelled to give my gratitude to the Society, it was the most difficult time but with the quality of service I received I was overwhelmed and mostly comforted.

F.A.Q

Frequently Asked Questions

How can we as members benefit from the accumulated premiums?

The accumulated funds are for the society to decide on how best members can benefit from the funds e.g. subsidizing premiums for members, improving on services offered by the scheme by paying for associated costs of burial of principal members.

Has Botswana Life Insurance Limited taken over our Burial Society?

Botswana Life has only underwritten the Society i.e Botswana Life is only responsible for administration of funeral claims. The management of the Society is entirely upon the Executive Committee as provided for by the constitution. The Society’s assets are under the stewardship of the Executive Committee, and as such, Botswana Life has nothing to do with the Society’s assets.
